This late 19th-century Anglo-Indian side table is constructed from dark brown hardwood and features an octagonal form with a chased copper inset top. The outer wooden surface is profusely carved with relief decoration, while the folding base incorporates pierced foliate aprons, protruding bracket feet, and detailed carvings of peacocks among foliage. The central copper panel depicts symbolic images of snakes, vine leaves, and mythological creatures, complementing the overall ornamentation of the piece. The dimensions measure 51.5 cm high, 61 cm wide, and 61.5 cm deep. Positioned in a gentleman's library or study, this table serves functionally at the end of a sofa to support small decorative items or lamps. The removable top and foldable base allow for versatile placement and straightforward rearrangement within an interior space. The dark brown wood finish and detailed craftsmanship integrate easily into traditional or eclectic seating areas.

Anglo-Indian furniture from the late 19th century combines traditional Indian hand-carving techniques with Western furniture forms. Typically crafted in dense hardwoods like teak or rosewood, these pieces feature intricate foliate patterns, animal motifs, and occasional metal inlays tailored for British export.

These tables were constructed primarily from native dense hardwoods such as teak, shisham, or rosewood, paired with hand-hammered brass or copper trays. The wooden panels were hand-carved with elaborate openwork or relief details before being fitted around a collapsible or pegged frame.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of hand-tooling, hand-hammered metalwork with slight asymmetries, and dark oxidisation in deep recesses. Construction details like traditional joinery and hand-carved peacock or floral motifs distinguish historical items from modern reproductions.

An Anglo-Indian table serves as a sculptural accent piece alongside contemporary upholstery or neutral textiles. Placing it as an end table or in a reading corner highlights the rich contrast between dark carved timber and metallic surfaces.

Dust the carved woodwork regularly using a dry, soft brush to remove debris from detailed recesses. Clean the copper top with a soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that can remove natural patina or seep into the adjacent wood finish.
