Staffordshire figures refer to ceramic earthenware pieces produced in the Staffordshire potteries in England during the 19th century, particularly popular during the Victorian era as affordable shelf ornaments.

These figures were typically made from pottery or earthenware, slip-cast or hand-pressed in moulds, and then hand-painted with underglaze colours and overglaze enamel highlights before firing.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit crazing in the glaze, vent holes on the underside, hand-painted details with slight variations, and characteristic flat unglazed bases, although many genuine figures remain unmarked.

These figures work well as focal points on bookshelves or mantelpieces, adding historical character and a touch of traditional eccentric charm when mixed with contemporary decor.

Keep ceramic figures out of direct sunlight to prevent paint fading, dust them gently with a dry microfiber cloth, and avoid using chemical cleaning agents or submerging them in water.
