This late 19th-century Victorian porcelain figurine portrays the American gospel singer and composer Ira David Sankey, standing on a circular white plinth base inscribed with the handwritten black text "Mr Sankey". The figure wears a hand-painted black frock coat, waistcoat, trousers, and a black bow tie, complemented by white shirt details and hand-painted facial features with brown hair and moustache. The glossy glazed porcelain surface exhibits minor crazing and age-related wear across the base and clothing, while the underside remains unmarked. The piece measures 15 cm high, 5 cm wide, and 6 cm deep. Display options for this decorative piece include a mantelpiece, a display cabinet, or a side table in a traditional interior setting. The figurine pairs well with other Victorian decorative objects, adding historical character to a collector's shelf or study.

Victorian portrait figurines are moulded ceramic statuettes produced predominantly in Staffordshire, England, depicting prominent historical, political, religious, or theatrical personalities of the 19th century.

These figures were typically made from earthenware or soft-paste porcelain, painted over-glaze with enamel colours, and sometimes finished with gilded accents.

Authentic pieces generally display craquelure in the glaze, a hollow base with a small release hole, unwedged mould lines, and wear consistent with age on the underside of the base.

Displaying these small statuettes in curated groupings on a mantelpiece, inside a glass cabinet, or amongst books on a shelf adds historic character to modern spaces.

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or dry soft-bristled brush, avoiding water or chemical detergents that could damage delicate over-glaze enamels.
