Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Staffordshire figures are earthenware ornaments produced in Staffordshire, England, predominantly during the 19th century. They depicted historical, folk, theatrical, and mythological figures designed to decorate middle-class mantelpieces.

These figures were cast in earthenware ceramic press moulds, leaving a hollow interior to conserve clay and reduce weight. They were lead-glazed and finished with hand-painted overglaze enamel colours and gilded accents.

Authentic Victorian pieces often exhibit minor glaze crazing, moulded seams down the sides, unglazed flat bases with small release holes, and soft palette enamelling showing wear consistent with age.

Position ceramic figures as standalone decorative accents on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or console table alongside modern art and books to create an eclectic display.

Dust the ceramic regularly using a soft, dry brush. Avoid immersing earthenware in water or using harsh chemical cleaners, as moisture can enter fine crazing lines and damage original enamel paint.
