Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Alabaster pedestals gained immense popularity during the Neoclassical and Victorian eras, drawing inspiration from classical Greek and Roman architectural orders. They were primarily crafted to elevate decorative arts, such as marble busts, bronzes, and floral arrangements, serving as symbols of refined taste and architectural symmetry within formal grand residences.

Traditional architectural columns and pedestals were hand-lathe turned from solid blocks of natural stone, such as alabaster, marble, or serpentine. They typically consist of three distinct sections: a molded top capital, a central shaft, and a stepped or octagonal base, often secured internally with iron or brass dowels.

Authentic antique stone pedestals display distinct natural veining, translucent quality under light, and a cool physical surface temperature. Signs of age include gentle surface patination, subtle hand-carving irregularities, minor edge chips, and traditional construction joinery between the capital, shaft, and base.

Interior designers use stone pedestals to add vertical interest, structure, and historical depth to modern interiors. They are frequently placed in pairs to frame entrance halls, flank fireplaces, or occupy empty corners, topped with contemporary art, sculpture, or dramatic trailing greenery to contrast classic and modern aesthetics.

Alabaster is a soft, porous mineral that requires gentle maintenance. Clean using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a slightly damp cloth with mild pH-neutral soap, avoiding water saturation, acidic cleansers, and chemical polishes that can dull the natural surface or dissolve the stone.
