Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 20th century rustic country decorative bowl originates from Eastern Europe, dating to circa 1900. Carved from a solid tree trunk, it is fashioned into a trough-form body with integrated end handles and a hand-polished warm brown finish. Visible adze marks, a natural age split along the grain, and a smoothed interior display the traditional handmade technique. The piece measures 26.6 cm high by 86.3 cm wide and 59.6 cm deep. Today, the bowl serves multiple practical functions in a home, functioning effectively as a large fruit bowl placed upon a grand table, or as storage for fireplace kindling near a hearth. It sits easily on a kitchen island to display produce or hold everyday items. The structural soundness of the timber ensures it is ready for daily use while retaining its historical rustic farmhouse character.

FAQs

Hand-carved wooden dough bowls, historically known as trenchers or dough troughs, were traditionally crafted from a single piece of hardwood and used in domestic bakeries for mixing and rising bread dough.

These items were typically adzed or hand-carved from single blocks of native hardwoods such as poplar, beech, or pine, leaving visible adze or chisel marks on the surface.

Authentic historical pieces display organic irregularity in shape, tool marks from hand carving, natural wear along the handles and rim, and an authentic aged patina rather than uniform machine smoothing.

A large wooden dough trough works as a central table focal point on a kitchen island or dining table, filled with organic items like dried botanicals, or displayed empty as a sculptural folk art object.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to nourish the timber and preserve the warm polished finish, avoiding submersion in water or exposure to direct heat sources.
