This late Victorian centre table is a piece of Victorian entrance hall furniture executed in mahogany with a warm brown colour and a polished finish. The circular top sits above four turned columns and an elaborately carved base complete with a central finial and carved feet. Visible details include delicate mouldings around the edge of the tabletop and natural wear reflecting its age. Practical dimensions measure 72 cm high, 117 cm wide and 117 cm deep. Positioned in an entrance hall, living room or study, the table functions as a central display surface for lamps, books or decorative objects. Its traditional English country house design integrates easily into period interiors or acts as a striking focal point in a contemporary room arrangement.

FAQs

A Victorian centre table is a freestanding piece of furniture designed to occupy the middle of an entrance hall or reception room, featuring elaborate carved bases and polished circular tops popularised during the 19th century.

Solid hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and rosewood were predominantly selected, frequently decorated with hand-carved details, turned support columns, and polished grain finishes.

Authentic 19th-century centre tables display hand-carved ornamentation on the base, traditional joinery techniques like mortise and tenon joints, original timber oxidisation beneath, and natural age-related wear.

Position the table in a central foyer or spacious landing, topped with a statement ceramic vessel, floral arrangement, or curated art books to serve as a balanced focal point.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft lint-free cloth, applying a high-quality beeswax paste twice annually along the wood grain, and avoiding placement near direct heat sources.
