This beautiful hunting style tapestry with exotic animals in an Arcadian landscape belongs to a rare group of embroidered silk tapestries produced in Tuscany. It is an extraordinary thing. The pale delicate colours shimmer under the light and the design is elegant and pleasing on the eye. The drawing of the landscape and foliage is quite beautiful while the figures are drawn in charming period costume. Note the various animals, including a lion, bear, rabbit and birds, all drawn in a very naturalistic style. There is some minor loss to the silk in places, but it has been cleaned and conserved professionally. This is a tour-de-force, a decorative delight.
