Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A jardiniere is an ornamental container designed to hold potted plants indoors or within conservatories. Inset ceramic tile planters gained wide popularity during the mid-to-late 19th century, driven by the Victorian passion for indoor horticulture and the Aesthetic Movements emphasis on decorative art objects.

These planters typically featured a timber framework, frequently ebonised or parcel-gilt, holding decorative relief-moulded ceramic panels on four sides. Removable metal liners made of zinc or lead were inserted inside to prevent water damage to the surrounding wooden frame.

Authentic pieces feature relief-moulded ceramic tiles, often bearing impressed factory marks or pattern numbers on the reverse. The timber frames usually exhibit period joinery, natural surface wear to ebonised finishes, and original fitted metal drop-in liners.

A pair of decorative planters can be styled symmetrically on a sideboard top, deep window sill, or mantelpiece. They serve as ideal vessels for low-maintenance indoor flora, such as potted ferns, orchids, or formal boxwood topiaries.

Clean the ceramic tile panels gently with a soft, damp cloth and neutral liquid soap, avoiding abrasive scrubbers. Dust the ebonised timber frame using a dry microfiber cloth, apply beeswax sparingly to protect the wood, and ensure internal plant pots sit inside waterproof liners.
