French armoire doors were traditionally crafted as the front enclosure for large freestanding wardrobes or linen presses in 18th and 19th-century France. They typically feature serpentine arched panels, raised mouldings, and hand-forged iron hardware emblematic of French Provincial cabinetry.

Regional cabinetmakers primarily utilised solid hardwoods such as walnut, oak, and fruitwood. The frames were assembled using traditional mortise and tenon joinery secured with wooden pegs, while the fielded timber panels were hand-planed to fit inside routed channels.
