Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency period furniture, dating from approximately 1811 to 1830, is defined by classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian influences combined with dark hardwoods like mahogany and rosewood. Common design traits include bold architectural proportions, intricate brass inlaid ornament, and deeply carved motifs such as acanthus leaves, scroll legs, and gadrooned borders.

Regency serving tables were predominantly constructed using solid Cuban or West Indian mahogany, frequently accented with cut flame mahogany veneers on friezes and backrails. Cabinetmakers utilised hand-cut dovetail joints, solid oak drawer linings, and hand-carved architectural mouldings.

Authentic Gillows furniture often displays a stamped maker mark on the drawer edge or underside, although many pieces remain un-stamped and are identified by specific design features. These include high-grade timber selection, precise reeding, acanthus leaf carvings, and standard maker measurements recorded in the original Gillows estimate books.

A Regency serving table functions effectively in an entryway or dining room, providing a focal anchor against neutral plaster or painted walls. Positioning modern artwork above the piece or pairing it with clean-lined contemporary ceramics creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern interior design.

Mahogany furniture should be kept away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to avoid timber splitting and veneer movement. Cleaning should be done with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, accompanied by periodic applications of high-grade beeswax polish to protect the original patination.
