Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 19th-century Queen Anne style demilune folding card table is fashioned from warm brown walnut veneer and solid timber. The piece stands on slender cabriole legs with carved knees and pad feet, supporting a semi-circular top that folds over with the aid of a pull-out rear leg. The interior features a replacement green baize playing surface displaying a water mark, while the exterior shows the original timber finish in as found condition. Practical dimensions measure 75 cm high by 76 cm wide and 76 cm deep. Suitable for placement against a narrow wall space in a home, this table functions primarily as an occasional or games surface in a hallway, drawing room, or living space. The folding top allows the unit to sit flush against a vertical surface when closed, occupying minimal floor space while maintaining a traditional English country house aesthetic.

FAQs

A demilune folding card table is a semi-circular table with a hinged top that unfolds to create a circular playing surface. Emerging in the 18th century, these dual-purpose tables function as decorative console tables against a wall when closed and as card tables when open.

19th-century card tables typically incorporate solid timber frames faced with figurative veneers such as walnut or mahogany. The internal playing surface is commonly lined with woven wool felt known as green baize, secured alongside brass hinges and gate-leg support mechanisms.

Authentic pieces display period construction techniques including hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, hand-turned or carved legs, and natural patination on the timber. The underside often shows oxidisation on timber surfaces and original brass ironmongery.

Position the table closed against a narrow wall or in an entryway to function as an occasional console table. Style the surface with lamps or ceramic vessels, unfolding the top when required for games or entertaining.

Dust timber surfaces with a soft dry cloth and apply natural beeswax sparingly along the grain. Clean the baize playing surface using a soft-bristled brush, keeping the table away from damp conditions and direct sunlight to prevent veneer lifting.
