This Victorian Venetian torchere and pedestal stand originates from circa 1860. The decorative piece employs carved wood finished in polychrome paint heightened with extensive gilding, showing metallic gold, deep black, and soft floral tones. The triangular upper platform incorporates moulded edges and pointed finials underneath. A central figural column depicts a youthful dark-skinned prince in period attire riding a mythological winged dragon, which is in turn supported by a seahorse above a scalloped, ornate base.
