Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 1920s:
Low coffee table height: a furniture form introduced in the early twentieth century.
Crisp, uniform reeding on uprights and legs: modern machine cabinet work.
Cast brass hairy paw castors: decorative hardware in the Regency taste.
Clean, even mahogany timbers: twentieth-century commercial timber selection.

These legs terminate in brass claw castors underneath. Practical in design, the piece measures 54.5 cm high, 95 cm wide, and 51 cm deep. FAQs

The Regency style originated in early nineteenth-century Britain, drawing heavy inspiration from Greek, Roman, and Egyptian antiquity. Key characteristics include clean linear silhouettes, reeded or fluted legs, brass accents, and the extensive use of dark hardwoods like mahogany and rosewood.

Cabinetmakers primarily used Cuban or Honduran mahogany, often accented with brass castors, mounts, or toe caps. High-end pieces feature solid timber legs, finely figure-matched veneers, and mortise-and-tenon joinery.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces feature hand-sawn wood marks, hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass hardware with natural oxidisation, and uneven wear pattern consistent with age on the feet and undersides.

Balance the dark wood and classical lines by pairing the table with upholstered neutral seating, such as linen sofas. Minimise tabletop decor to a few structured items, such as hardback art books or a single ceramics piece, allowing the wood grain to remain visible.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax polish along the wood grain once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage, and clean brass castors with a dry cloth without harsh abrasive polishes.
