Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These rustic French doors from 1900 display a French Provincial architectural style, constructed from oak with an iron and paint finish in distressed grey. Each heavy panel features raised wooden construction bordered by serpentine mouldings, intricate top and bottom carved scrolls, and a central vertical seam. Original dark iron pintle hinges mount on the exterior edges, complemented by slender vertical escutcheon plates and hardware. The weathered surface shows significant white and grey paint residue rubbed away across the brown timber grain, revealing extensive age and historic wear patterns across the entire woodwork. Measuring 114 cm high by 145 cm wide and 4 cm deep, these architectural salvage elements suit creative installation projects inside a residential interior. Homeowners typically employ such pieces as decorative wall hangings, headboards, or rustic room dividers within a French Chateau interior design scheme, adding authentic European character to living spaces or bedrooms.

FAQs

French Provincial carved doors typically feature serpentine top rails, moulded panel outlines, and symmetrical scrolled motifs characteristic of 18th-century Louis XV design adapted for regional country homes.

These doors were constructed from solid native hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or fruitwood, featuring mortise and tenon joinery alongside hand-forged iron hardware including pintle hinges and escutcheon plates.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-planed timber, wooden peg joinery, natural wear around keyholes, and original iron fittings that show age-appropriate oxidisation.

They can be wall-mounted as decorative headboards or architectural focal points, repurposed into sliding barn-style interior doors, or integrated into custom cabinetry installations.

Clean surfaces using a dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth without abrasive chemicals, and apply a clear neutral wax polish sparingly to protect exposed wood grain without disturbing the aged patina.
