LVS Decorative Arts has dated this Regency Mahogany Centre Table to the 1920s.
The solid mahogany top consists of finely figured mahogany veneers with outer border of ebony and boxwood stringing with burr maple and rosewood banding with leaf and berry decoration with ebony and boxwood stringing and outer mahogany cross banding leading down to a mahogany frieze with moulded edge.

The top is supported by a superb tri-form base consisting of three magnificently carved large giltwood dolphins supported on a mahogany platform base with star mount decoration terminating on three carved giltwood gadrooned bun feet.

The dolphin is rich with symbolic meaning such as good luck, long life and rebirth, the influence of Nelson’s victories at sea were seen in Regency furniture design with the use of the dolphin as a reference to the sea.

This table is in excellent condition for age, with some old repairs, is of stable construction and can go straight into a home.
