Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These French painted doors hail from 1920 in the French Provincial style, made from painted wood and iron with a French grey colour palette and a distressed finish. Each door displays Rococo moulded panels with C-scroll contours, original metalwork, and dark iron escutcheons on the upright sections. The wooden surfaces show aged wear, with exposed lighter patches where the grey paint has worn away around the raised mouldings and edges, complemented by dark hinges attached to the outer borders. The panels measure 155 cm high, 124 cm wide, and 4 cm deep in total dimensions. This architectural salvage pair adapts well as a decorative interior wall feature or room divider in a home study, living space, or hallway, bringing period French chateau character to both traditional and eclectic interiors.

FAQs

French Provincial cabinet doors originate from 18th-century regional France, reflecting simplified interpretations of Parisian court styles such as Louis XV and Louis XVI, characterised by graceful moulded panels and rustic finishes.

Traditional doors were hand-crafted using native hardwoods or softwoods like oak, pine, or fruitwood, joined with mortise and tenon joints, and coated in milk-based or oil paints with hand-forged iron hardware.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-carved moulded scrollwork, irregular pegged joinery, evidence of layered historic paint finishes, and original hand-wrought iron hinges or escutcheons showing natural patination.

These decorative panels can be mounted on a wall as architectural artwork, re-purposed as custom wardrobe doors, or converted into a headboard for a bedroom scheme.

Preserve original distressed paint by dusting gently with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh water or chemical cleaners, and applying a clear, neutral conservation wax if stabilisation is required.
