This nineteenth-century Regency stick and umbrella stand is constructed from dark brown oak and metal. The piece stands 89 cm high, 54.5 cm wide, and 20.5 cm deep. The design incorporates a carved scrolled cresting, a revolving turned front rail with small turned finials at each end, lyre-shaped supports featuring acanthus carving, and a central fluted column. The base comprises an ogee moulded plinth on compressed bun feet, housing a removable metal drip tray equipped with small folding handles and traces of a painted simulated oak finish. Positioned beside a front door, this practical hallway accessory organises walking sticks and umbrellas in a traditional entranceway. The timber displays a warm dark brown colour and clear patination throughout the visible grain. The structure maintains its original functional elements, including the rotating hanging rail and the twin-section metal liner at the floor level designed to catch moisture from wet items.

Introduced during the early nineteenth century, stick stands were constructed to accommodate walking canes and umbrellas in formal entrance halls, reflecting the periods focus on organised domestic spaces.

These stands were primarily constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, and were fitted with removable zinc, lead, or cast iron drip trays at the base to collect water.

Authentic pieces display hand-carved decorative details, hand-fitted joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, and natural age-related oxidisation or surface wear on both the wood and the metal drip liners.

Position the piece near an entryway or hallway to provide functional storage for umbrellas and walking canes, or use it as a decorative architectural feature alongside modern furnishings.

Apply clear beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain to protect the timber, and ensure the metal drip tray is routinely emptied and dried to prevent moisture damage to the frame.
