Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

This Edwardian folding screen comes from 1920 in an Edwardian style, formed of three mahogany panels fitted with clear glass panes and joined by brass hinges. The timber displays a dark brown finish with a polished surface, set on a turned central support with carved trestle feet resting on scrolled toes. Visible details include simple wooden mouldings around each glass frame and metal hinge plates connecting the folding sections. The piece stands 109.22 cm high, 114.3 cm wide, and 104.14 cm deep. In a home today, this screen functions effectively as a decorative room divider or a draught shield, suited for placement in a gentleman's library or a fireplace alcove to catch ambient warmth while maintaining sightlines across the space. The hinged panels allow the frame to be angled as needed to fit specific room layouts or corner spaces. Domestic placement suits period or traditional interiors where wooden architectural accents complement existing furniture.

FAQs

Glazed folding screens were designed to shield occupants from fireplace heat or window draughts while allowing light to pass freely through the room.

These screens were commonly constructed from solid woods such as mahogany or rosewood, fitted with clear glass panes and articulated with brass hinges.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cut timber retention mouldings, original brass hardware with aged patination, and hand-carved trestle feet typical of early 20th-century craftsmanship.

A glazed screen can be positioned near a fireplace, beside a reading chair, or in a light-filled alcove to define functional zones without obscuring spatial sightlines.

Glass panels should be cleaned using a soft microfibre cloth and gentle glass cleaner, while the mahogany frame benefits from periodic treatment with high-grade beeswax polish.
