Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This antique French Rococo console table from 1860 follows a lavish design tradition with rich gold and dark green tones. The piece comprises a thick, shaped serpentine marble top resting upon a heavily carved giltwood base. The elaborate solid wood frame displays deep relief work featuring scrolled acanthus leaves, C-scrolls, and a central foliate urn motif over cabriole legs linked by a scrolled stretcher with a central finial. Supported by two front feet, this console requires wall fixing for stability. Measuring 82 cm high, 109 cm wide, and 58 cm deep, it provides a striking statement piece. In a contemporary home, this table functions effectively beside the front door in an entrance hall or against a living room wall as a display surface for decorative objects. The restored gold finish catches light, while the green marble top adds a dark contrast suited to formal or traditional interiors. Its wall-mounted design keeps the floor space clear beneath the scrolling stretcher.

FAQs

Emerging in 18th-century France under Louis XV, Rococo design is characterised by asymmetrical curves, S-scrolls, C-scrolls, acanthus leaf motifs, and elaborate gilding.

These tables typically feature hand-carved softwood frames, such as lime or pine, finished with gesso and gold leaf gilding, topped with shaped marble slabs.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved timber construction, layered gesso beneath the gold leaf, subtle oxidisation to the gilt finish, and custom-fitted stone tops.

Position the table against a hallway wall topped with modern ceramics, or frame it beneath a minimalist mirror to create a contrast between contemporary and period elements.

Dust giltwood gently using a dry, soft microfibre brush without liquid cleaners to protect the leaf, and wipe spills immediately from the marble surface to prevent staining.
