Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late nineteenth-century French Louis XVI style demi-lune console table is made of giltwood and dark marble, presenting a gold and black colour palette. The piece stands on fluted legs with carved foliate capitals, joined by a stretcher supporting a central turned urn finial beneath a rosette and beaded frieze moulding. Standing 86.5 cm high, 80 cm wide and 38 cm deep, it provides a compact surface for narrow spaces. Positioned in an entrance hallway or living room, the table offers a practical surface for everyday items near an entryway or against a wall. The giltwood finish and polished marble top bring a classic decorative accent to interior settings, complementing traditional and formal room schemes while functioning as a display stand for small decorative objects.

FAQs

Louis XVI furniture, originating in late 18th-century France, is characterised by Neoclassical restraint, symmetrical geometric lines, straight fluted legs, and decorative motifs inspired by Greco-Roman antiquity.

These tables are constructed from hand-carved hardwoods covered with gesso and gold leaf gilding, frequently paired with imported marble tops such as dark veined or white Carrara marble.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-carved joinery on the framework, natural wear and oxidisation on the gilt surface revealing underlying red clay bole or white gesso, and hand-finished marble edges.

Position the demi-lune table flush against a wall in an entryway or hallway, topped with a contemporary lamp or decorative ceramics, and hung beneath an architectural mirror to contrast classical details with modern surfaces.

Dust giltwood surfaces gently with a soft dry feather duster or microfiber cloth without water or polish, while wiping marble tops with a damp cloth and neutral pH soap, avoiding acidic cleaning chemicals.
