Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Regency rosewood book tray originates from the nineteenth century, designed as a practical accessory for a gentleman's library or office desk. The piece is constructed from dark brown timber exhibiting a prominent rosewood grain, paired with polished brass handles and gallery ends at each side. Visible details include a stepped, moulded base plinth supporting a long row of leather-bound antique books in assorted earthy tones, alongside openwork decorative handles featuring ornate scrollwork patterns at the ends of the tray. The whole assembly measures 15 cm high, 57 cm wide, and 23 cm deep, providing a compact footprint for desktop organisation. In a modern interior, this desk accessory sits comfortably upon a study writing table, side cabinet, or bookshelves to corral reading materials with traditional character. The rich timber finish and metallic elements coordinate easily with classic study furniture or contemporary workspaces seeking a historic touch. Placed within a home office or living room, it keeps volumes upright and accessible while serving as a decorative tabletop focal point rooted in nineteenth-century British cabinet-making traditions.

FAQs

A Regency book tray is a portable wooden tabletop accessory crafted during the early 19th century, designed to hold a row of books upright for convenient display on a desk or library table.

These pieces were typically constructed from fine hardwoods such as rosewood or mahogany, often features decorative cast brass or bronze handles and galleries at either end.

Authentic Regency pieces exhibit rich natural graining characteristic of Brazilian rosewood, cast brass end mounts with hand-chased details, and signs of age-appropriate oxidisation and joinery.

A book tray can be placed on an office desk, console table, or sideboard to display curated collections of leather-bound volumes, hardbacks, or reference manuals.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft cloth and apply beeswax periodically along the wood grain, avoiding harsh chemicals on both the rosewood finish and aged brass fittings.
