This Regency period writing slope is made from warm brown rosewood and decorated with bright brass inlay and foliate borders. The rectangular hinged box has a polished dark timber finish, a central brass cartouche on the lid, a matching escutcheon on the front, and a working lock with an inserted key and a red tassel. The exterior surfaces show detailed decorative brass floral work along the edges. The unit measures 17.7 cm high, 50 cm wide, and 26 cm deep. In a modern interior, this piece serves as a sophisticated desktop accessory or decorative storage box in a home office or study. It provides a practical surface for keeping stationery and correspondence organised while adding a traditional period accent to a study desk, side table, or library shelving unit.

A Regency writing slope is a portable wooden box designed during the early nineteenth century with a hinged, sloped interior surface used for writing letters and storing correspondence supplies while travelling.

Writing slopes were constructed primarily using hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, or walnut, frequently accented with cut brass inlay, mother-of-pearl, brass corner straps, and velvet or leather writing surfaces.

Authentic Regency writing slopes feature solid brass flush fittings, intricate brass inlay set flush into dark veneers like rosewood, original Bramah or mortise locks, and interior spring-loaded secret drawers concealed behind divider panels.

An antique writing slope functions effectively as a decorative accent when displayed closed on an office desk, console table, or library bookshelf, adding historical texture and rich wood tones to contemporary decor.

Maintain rosewood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity to prevent veneer cracking. Brass inlay should be gently cleaned with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh metal polishes that can degrade surrounding wood finishes.
