Marlborough Antiques & Interiors has dated this Antique Elm Farmhouse Table to the 19th Century.
Originally purchased by our client from Church Street Antiques in London.

The substantial rectangular top, measuring 197cm long × 77 cm wide, is formed from broad elm boards displaying the characteristic flowing grain, knots and natural variations associated with the timber. Generations of use have produced an exceptionally appealing surface, with gentle wear giving the table considerable character without detracting from its usefulness.

The top is raised on a simple, sturdy base with square-section legs and plain frieze, the restrained construction typical of practical country furniture made for everyday use rather than formal display. Small castors to the feet are a useful feature and appear to be later additions giving it good knee height at 62.5 cm.

Of particular appeal is the table’s long, relatively narrow proportion. At two metres in length and 77 cm deep, it provides a generous working or dining surface without dominating a room. It would work especially well as a farmhouse kitchen or dining table, but equally as a large preparation table, library table or informal centre table.
The pale, naturally worn elm gives it a relaxed appearance particularly suited to both traditional country interiors and more contemporary settings.
