This extensive Staffordshire dinner service dates from the Victorian period around 1870 and follows an English Country House style. The set is made of white porcelain with hand-coloured enamel and gold leaf, finished with a glossy glaze. Each piece features a white background decorated with a cobalt blue line trim, a central heraldic crest with a motto, and a gilded scalloped rim, along with moulded handles, scroll-shaped handles, and ornate figural finials on the lidded tureens. The service comprises seventy-one pieces in total, including twenty-four dinner plates, sixteen soup plates, twelve dessert plates, eight platters ranging from 10.75 to 23.25 inches, two vegetable dishes with stands and lids, and two sauce tureens with stands, covering a large dining table entirely when laid out. This grand set suits traditional dining rooms, placed on a large dining table for formal dinner parties or displayed on a sideboard top in a country residence.

Staffordshire porcelain dinner services from the mid-to-late 19th century are recognised by their clear white glaze, hand-applied gilding, and intricate moulded details on handles and rims. These extensive sets were manufactured in the Staffordshire Potteries district and often featured heraldic crests, family coats of arms, or cobalt blue decorative borders.

Victorian porcelain tableware was typically made from hard-paste or bone china ceramic bodies. The pieces were press-moulded or slip-cast, fired at high temperatures, glazed, and subsequently decorated using transfer printing, hand-enameled details, or hand-painted leaf gilding.

Authentic pieces can be identified by maker marks, backstamps, or impressed numbers on the undersides of plates and tureens. Look for age-appropriate wear on the unglazed base foot rings, slight hand-application irregularities in the gilding, and British registry diamond stamps dating to the 19th century.

An antique dinner service can be displayed inside modern glazed china cabinets or stacked neatly on open dresser shelving to create visual interest. Individual platters and covered tureens can be arranged as decorative table centrepieces or used on a sideboard during dining occasions.

Gilded porcelain should always be washed by hand using mild dish soap and warm water, avoiding abrasive sponges that scrub off gold leaf detailing. These pieces should never be placed in a dishwasher or microwave due to the metallic decorations.
