A nineteenth-century country vernacular dairy bowl and spoon crafted from sycamore in a pale honey colour. The pole-lathe turned bowl has a shallow wide rim with incised concentric turned grooves circling the exterior, and sits on a wooden surface against a rough stone wall. A hand-carved wooden spoon rests inside the vessel, pointing upwards towards the right edge. The timber shows natural grain variations, soft surface wear, and weathering consistent with age. Measuring 10 cm high and 42 cm wide, the bowl provides a practical and decorative storage option for everyday domestic items. In a contemporary home, this rustic farmhouse piece sits comfortably on a kitchen island, dining table, or open shelving unit. It offers versatile function for holding small produce, dried goods, or kitchen accessories, while bringing natural texture and historical character to modern interior schemes. The paired spoon completes the ensemble, providing an authentic display accent that highlights traditional rural craftsmanship and historic utility.

An antique sycamore dairy bowl is a hand-turned shallow wooden vessel traditionally used in 18th and 19th-century dairies for setting milk and skimming cream.

Sycamore is a dense, close-grained hardwood that does not impart odour or flavour to dairy products, making it the preferred timber for historic dairy treen.

Authentic pieces exhibit evidence of hand-turning, subtle asymmetrical warping from age and drying, scrubbed surface finishes, and gentle wear patterns along the rim and base.

These bowls serve as tactile centrepieces on a kitchen island, sideboard, or dining table, displaying seasonal produce or standing alone as sculptural folk art.

Avoid submerging the timber in water or applying synthetic detergents; clean gently with a slightly damp cloth and condition periodically with food-safe natural beeswax.
