This nineteenth-century Regency circular centre table is made of rosewood with warm brown tones and a faded original top. The circular veneered surface has a moulded edge and rests upon a tapering quadrangular pedestal decorated with simulated rosewood and an applied gilt brass anthemion motif. The platform base has four boldly swept sabre legs ending in fine brass castor caps shaped as acorns and leaves. Measuring 78 cm high by 136 cm wide and 136 cm deep, this piece serves as a grand focal point in a formal dining room, a spacious hallway, or a large living space. It combines classic Regency craftsmanship with practical utility, providing a sturdy surface for daily use or display.

Regency centre tables, popularised in early nineteenth-century England, feature circular or tilt-top surfaces set upon central pedestals with splayed legs. Influenced by classical antiquity, these tables often incorporate decorative wood veneers, brass mounts, and castors, designed to sit prominently in the middle of a room.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency era predominantly utilised imported exotic timbers such as rosewood and mahogany, often featuring figured grain veneers. Bases were frequently supported by brass or bronze castors, and mechanisms included iron or brass tilt-top latches.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces typically display hand-cut joinery, thick hand-sawn wood veneers, and age-related oxidisation on the timber underside. Original brass fittings, hand-turned screws, and a distinct grain pattern characteristic of genuine rosewood also indicate historical authenticity.

A centre table functions effectively as a focal point in an entry hall, foyer, or formal living room. Placing modern ceramic vessels, books, or floral arrangements on the top balances historical craftsmanship with contemporary design aesthetics.

Preserve the finish by applying a natural beeswax polish twice yearly, buffing gently along the grain. Keep the table away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources to avoid timber bleaching, cracking, or veneer lift.
