Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Victorian trade sign is a commercial piece made from a single solid timber plank with a dark brown hand-painted finish and gold leaf serif lettering. The fascia displays weathered surfaces, surface marks, and distinct signs of age across the painted lettering that reads CARPENTER & CO. The surface shows a worn brown timber ground with aged patina, visible wear, and distressed painted text details. Measuring 336 cm in length and 33 cm in height, this long horizontal signage panel suits placement in a home today mounted above a sideboard in a living room, dining area, or kitchen styled with industrial loft decor. The simple rectangular shape and narrow proportions allow for straightforward wall hanging against an interior wall to add historic character to a commercial or residential interior space.

FAQs

During the nineteenth century, trade signs served as primary visual identifiers for commercial businesses and craftsmen, mounted on shop exteriors to indicate services offered to passersby.

These signs were typically carved from solid timber backings, primed with oil paints, and detailed using gilded paints or gold leaf for resilience against weather exposure.

Genuine period pieces exhibit natural paint craquelure, authentic surface oxidisation, hand-lettered serif typography, and original mounting wear along the timber edges.

Trade signs function as graphic architectural focal points, ideal for display above sideboards, mounted in hallways, or resting on deep mantels in industrial or rustic spaces.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth, avoid applying chemical cleaners or water, and maintain a stable indoor environment to prevent paint flaking.
