Imari porcelain refers to Japanese porcelain produced in the Arita region and exported via the port of Imari. The Genroku period (16881704) represents a golden era of Edo-period culture, known for intricate designs combining underglaze cobalt blue with overglaze coloured enamels.

Imari ware is crafted from kaolin clay fired at high temperatures to create white porcelain. Decorative elements are created using underglaze cobalt blue paint, followed by a second low-temperature firing for overglaze enamels in iron red, turquoise green, and gold gilding.

Authentic period pieces frequently show slight irregularities in form, spur marks on the underside from kiln firing, and gentle surface wear to the overglaze gilding and enamels consistent with age.

These rectangular dishes can be arranged on a sideboard top, displayed within a wall cabinet, or used as decorative trays on a hall table to introduce pattern and historical interest to modern spaces.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth. If washing is necessary, clean gently by hand using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, avoiding immersion or abrasive pads that could wear away overglaze enamels and gilding.
