This nest of four Art Deco tables dates from circa 1930 and follows a compact stacking design. The main circular table features a warm brown quarter-matched walnut veneer top with a scalloped edge, while the four sector-shaped side tables stow underneath, displaying a darker flame-figured appearance. Each table stands on tapered square legs with flared feet and incorporates a lower curved shelf. The timbers exhibit scuffs and missing lacquer to the top in places, a chip to the veneer on one small table, and other wear and marks commensurate with age, alongside a good original patina. Measuring 50 cm high, 66 cm wide and 66 cm deep, this versatile piece fits neatly at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair as an occasional coffee table. The nested configuration allows the smaller tables to be pulled out for serving drinks or displaying decorative items, then stowed away compactly to save floor space when not in use.

Art Deco furniture, originating in the 1920s and 1930s, is defined by geometric forms, clean lines, and symmetrical patterns. It frequently incorporates rich wood veneers, polished surfaces, and functional, space-saving designs.

Art Deco nesting tables commonly utilised dense hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and oak, decorated with quarter-matched wood veneers. Construction relied on traditional joinery methods to hold curved or fitted components precisely in place.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-matched veneer grain, consistent natural age patina, and period-specific joinery inside the framework. Original examples often feature sector-shaped accent tables designed to slot flush beneath the primary central table.

Place the main table beside a primary seating area as a central low table, or extend the nested pieces outward beside armchairs to create additional surfaces for entertaining while maintaining cohesive timber tones.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically along the wood grain. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or discolouration of the veneer.
