1920s Burr Walnut Nest of Three Tables C.1925

1900 - 1920
Description

An elegant and beautifully figured nest of three burr walnut occasional tables dating from the 1920s, showcasing the rich grain and warm golden tones that make burr walnut one of the most sought-after cabinet woods.

The set comprises three graduating tables, each with attractively shaped serpentine gallery tops and standing on slender cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. The tables nest neatly together when not in use, making them both decorative and highly practical for everyday living.

The tops display particularly striking burr walnut veneers with wonderful swirling grain patterns and natural figuring, framed by moulded walnut edges that complement the flowing outline. Their graceful proportions make them ideal as lamp tables, occasional tables or for serving drinks when entertaining.

Presented in very good antique condition with a lovely mellow colour and patina, displaying only the light age-related wear expected from furniture of this period. The tables are sturdy, well constructed and ready for use.

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Queen Anne revival furniture from the 1920s frequently draws inspiration from early 18th-century English forms, featuring cabriole legs, pad or claw feet, and rich veneers such as burr walnut. These pieces balance traditional elegance with scaled-down proportions suited to modern early 20th-century homes.

Antique nests of tables are constructed from solid hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or oak, often decorated with highly figured timber veneers like burr or crotch walnut. Frames rely on traditional joinery techniques, including mortise and tenon joints, to ensure structural strength across slender legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit book-matched or quartersawn burr walnut veneers displaying distinctive swirled grain patterns on top surfaces. Look for signs of hand-finished construction, light natural wear along lower leg joints, and smooth underside grooves designed for effortless nesting.

Position the nested set beside a sofa or armchair as a compact accent table that can be expanded during social gatherings. The individual tables can be pulled out to hold drinks, lamps, or books, providing functional surface area without permanently cluttering the floor plan.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood and protect the lacquer. Avoid placing hot liquids or direct moisture on the surface, and position the piece away from direct heat sources to prevent veneer lifting.
