Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Adopted by the French military in 1829, this pattern was designed primarily for mounted troops, including light cavalry and artillery officers. The design emphasised a lightweight, swept blade suited for slashing manoeuvres during 19th-century European engagements.

The blade was forged from high-carbon steel, accompanied by a cast brass guard and knuckle-bow. The scabbard was typically manufactured from sheet steel or iron, often fitted with double suspension rings for attachment to a belt or saddle.

Authentic period examples generally feature arsenal inscriptions engraved along the spine of the blade, such as Chatellerault, along with official inspection stamps known as poincons on the brass hilt and ricasso.

A military sabre can be mounted horizontally on custom wall brackets above a fireplace mantelpiece, positioned within a glass display cabinet, or laid flat on a dark wood library console table.

Steel components should be kept clean and lightly coated with microcrystalline wax or mineral oil to prevent oxidation. Brass components ought to remain unpolished if natural patina is preferred, and the entire object should be stored in a dry, climate-controlled environment.
