1878 Miniature London Almanac in Six-fold Brass Glazed Travelling Mount

19th century
Description

A miniature 1878 London Almanac, mounted in a high quality bespoke brass glazed mount, which folds to the size of a single leaf for transport.

Double-sided January to June to one side and July to December the other. The brass case has a very good weight with delicate engravings to the front and sides. All hinges operate smoothly. No cracks or chips to any glass panel. There is some browning to the pages in areas as is to be expected but generally the whole is in a very good condition indeed.

A charming and unusual example.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Miniature London almanacs were tiny printed calendars produced in nineteenth-century Britain, designed to fit into small pockets or decorative folding mounts for daily reference whilst travelling.

These mounts were predominantly constructed from brass, silver, or electroplated metal, incorporating thin glass panels to protect the delicate printed paper pages inside a hinged folding frame.

Authentic period examples feature crisp typography on age-appropriate paper stock, natural tarnish on hand-assembled metalwork, and precise folding mechanisms with fine decorative engraving.

Position the unfolded frame flat on an executive desk, display it within a glass cabinet of curiosities, or style it on a library shelf alongside leather-bound volumes.

Store the item away from direct sunlight to prevent paper discolouration, dust the brass exterior gently with a dry microfibre cloth, and avoid liquid polished solutions that could seep into the glazed panels.
