Sitzendorf porcelain refers to ceramic items produced in Thuringia, Germany, starting in the mid-nineteenth century. Exotic bird figures, particularly parrots and macaws, became popular production subjects during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

These figures were cast in hard-paste porcelain using multi-part molds to capture intricate feather textures and branch details. After an initial firing, craftsmen applied overglaze enamel paints by hand before a final firing to set the polychrome colours.

Authentic pieces typically bear factory marks stamped or painted on the underside of the base, such as the crown over S mark used from the late nineteenth century onwards. Details like crisp molding, multi-layered hand-painting, and precise glaze application also indicate genuine manufacture.
