Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Regency faux bamboo furniture emerged during the early nineteenth century, inspired by European fascination with East Asian design and Chinoiserie styles. Craftsmen carved softwoods or hardwoods to simulate the nodes and grain of natural bamboo, often finishing the pieces with painted or lacquered surfaces.

These pieces were typically constructed from woods such as pine, beech, or birch, which could be easily turned on a lathe to mimic bamboo joints. The finished wood was usually primed, painted in soft neutrals, and detailed with hand-painted accent lines or lacquer.

Authentic nineteenth-century painted pieces display age-appropriate surface wear, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, and natural oxidisation on unpainted timber undersides. Original painted finishes often feature subtle craquelure and hand-applied lining rather than modern spray finishes.

A Regency side table functions well as an entryway console, a compact home office desk, or an accent table in a living room. Pairing painted antique timber with modern lighting or contemporary artwork creates a balanced, layered interior.

Clean painted antiques by light dusting with a dry microfibre cloth to prevent scratching the painted surface. Avoid liquid polishes, abrasive solvents, direct sunlight, and placement near radiators to prevent wood movement and paint flaking.
