Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French provincial refectory farmhouse dining table dates to 1880 and possesses a solid cherry wood construction in a warm brown colour. The rectangular plank top displays a natural patina, while the frieze includes a single side drawer fitted with a small metal ring handle. Four heavy turned legs support the body, featuring bulbous turnings above simpler lower sections that end in plain cylindrical feet. These turned elements contrast with the clean lines of the flat apron beneath the surface. Measuring 76 cm high, 112 cm wide and 68 cm deep, the piece accommodates four seats within compact proportions suited to smaller spaces. It functions well as a breakfast table in a country kitchen, a side desk in a period cottage, or an intimate dining surface in a compact apartment. The rustic aesthetic and practical storage drawer make it a versatile addition to traditional and transitional home interiors today.

FAQs

A refectory dining table is an elongated wooden table style originally designed for communal dining in institutional or ecclesiastical settings, which was later adapted into French provincial homes throughout the nineteenth century.

French provincial furniture makers commonly utilised native hardwoods such as cherry wood, oak, and walnut, employing traditional mortise and tenon joinery alongside hand-turned legs.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-carved structural joinery, period-correct hardware on frieze drawers, visible tool marks on the underside, and natural patination across the timber surfaces.

Pair the warm timber tones with contemporary upholstered dining chairs, neutral woven linen textiles, and simple ceramics to create a balanced, characterful aesthetic.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber, and use trivets or mats to protect against heat and moisture.
