This Jacobean Revival draw-leaf dining table from 1920 is fashioned from dark brown oak with a rich timber grain. The design incorporates a pull-out extension mechanism on either side, heavy bulbous turned legs, a carved frieze along the apron, and a connecting stretcher base with block feet. The top surfaces display natural warm brown tones with darker shading. Practical for everyday dining or entertaining, this table fits well in a kitchen area or dining room where extra surface space is needed for guests. The full dimensions measure 74 cm high, 84 cm wide, and 188 cm deep when fully extended.

A draw-leaf dining table features self-storing extension leaves hidden beneath the central tabletop that slide outwards to expand the seating capacity. The mechanism originated in sixteenth-century Europe and experienced a resurgence in British cabinetmaking during the early twentieth century.

These tables are traditionally constructed from solid oak using mortise-and-tenon joinery for structural stability. The self-storing leaves operate on wooden guide runners mounted beneath the main tabletop, elevating to flush height when fully pulled out.

Authentic pieces exhibit heavy cup-and-cover or bulbous turned legs, carved friezes with geometric or floral motifs, and traditional timber joinery. Natural surface wear on the wooden extension runners and patinated drawer or frame edges also indicate age.

Pairing a substantial carved oak table with modern mid-century or upholstered dining chairs creates an engaging visual contrast. Keeping wall colours neutral and adding simple glass or ceramic tableware prevents the dark timber from overwhelming the room.

Dust the timber regularly using a soft lint-free cloth and apply a high-grade natural beeswax polish along the grain twice a year. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent warping or timber shrinkage.
