Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large antique Elizabethan style dining table stands on four heavy bulbous cup and cover legs connected by a substantial cross stretcher base. The solid oak timber displays a dark brown finish with a natural wood grain visible across the rectangular top and the carved frieze. Elaborate relief carving covers the frieze with floral motifs and foliage, whilst the bulbous leg sections display further carved decoration and vertically reeded mouldings. Pull out leaves at either end allow the top to extend from 153 cm to 244 cm in length, with a width of 91 cm and a height of 76 cm. In a modern home, this practical piece serves as a formal dining table or a spacious gathering surface in an English Country House setting.

FAQs

Elizabethan style furniture is characterised by heavy oak construction, dramatic turned legs such as bulbous cup-and-cover turnings, and detailed relief carvings featuring leaf motifs, strapwork, and geometric patterns.

Traditional oak extending tables, particularly draw-leaf models, rely on solid oak framing joined with mortise and tenon joinery. The extending mechanism uses wooden runners mounted beneath the main table surface rather than metal hardware.

Authentic revival pieces demonstrate hand-finished carvings, substantial weight, pegged wood construction, and natural wear patterns along the foot stretchers and leaf edges.

A dark carved oak refectory table anchors a dining area when paired with streamlined, contemporary seating or minimalist lighting fixtures to balance its heavy proportions.

Solid oak furniture should be kept away from direct heat sources to prevent timber movement and treated periodically with beeswax to preserve the wood finish and lustre.
