Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cased ship models gained significant popularity during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, often constructed by sailors during long voyages or commissioned as scale replicas by shipbuilders and owners. Enclosing the model in glass protected the intricate rigging and delicate details from dust and atmospheric damage.

These models were typically built using carved hardwoods for the hull, bone or fine timber for spars, and cotton or linen thread for the rigging. The surrounding cases were generally framed in native hardwoods such as oak or mahogany, set with hand-blown glass panes, and occasionally feature a sculpted plaster sea base.

Authentic period examples often display hand-carved wood components, naturally aged textiles, and hand-drawn flags rather than modern synthetic prints. Look for age-appropriate wear on the timber frame, hand-poured glass imperfections, original brass plaques, and traditional joinery on the case enclosure.

Place the cased model on a solid wood sideboard, study desk, or deep bookshelf to create a focal point. Contrast its detailed structure against clean, contemporary lines or pair it with vintage leather books and brass accoutrements to complement a classic decor scheme.

Keep the display case sealed to prevent dust from entering the internal vessel. Clean the exterior glass with a microfibre cloth and specialized glass cleaner, ensuring liquids do not contact the wooden frame, and position the display away from direct sunlight to prevent silk or cotton sails from deteriorating.
