Description

A Deco era pair of bookends or mantle/shelf ornaments c1930. Carved from ebony or other black hardwood, these are likely from a colonial era, French or British. The elephants are beautifully carved with tusks and eye insets made from bone. They stand sturdily on flat bases with decorative rims. As well as holding books in place due to their weight, they would make a strikibg statement on a fireplace mantle or shelving. In very good condition, with just a couple of hairlines consistent with the age and material.
