Small Regency Rosewood & Brass Inlaid Circular Centre Table

19th century
Description

An Extremely Good Quality Regency Period Rosewood Circular Centre Table, Or Hall Table, Of Rare Diminutive Proportions, With Elegant Brass Inlaid Decoration Throughout, The Superbly Figured Circular Tilting Top Raised On Stepped Square Central Support And Attractive Quad Form Concave Base With Four Sabre Legs And Original Brass Paw Castors.

This centre table is of relatively typical design for the height of the Regency period, however it does have a few distinguishing features which lift it above and beyond most that you will find available on the market for sale.

The first is its size. It is that bit smaller than the average, perfect for an entrance hall, or possibly even behind a settee. In combination with the lovely thin top and superbly figured rosewood veneers it stands very elegantly and will look fabulous wherever one chooses to locate it.

Another excellent feature is the high quality brass inlaid decoration throughout, something that really raises the elegance and sophistication of the table.

Overall the quality of the table is excellent, highlighted further by the choice of decorative veneers and extra attention to detail in various areas.

It also remains in very good condition, with very little historical damage to speak of other than a few old scuffs and scrapes which blend into the surface and a very historic small amount of warp to the top which can be seen on the photos and certainly isn't a concern in any way whatsoever now. It has also received a natural wax polish in our workshops by our specialist antique furniture restorers before being offered for sale meaning that it is ready for immediate placement by the purchaser.

From a practical perspective it would be easy to transport and place into any room, in any house as the top can be separated from the base.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in early 19th-century Britain, Regency centre tables were designed to sit in the middle of a hall or room, characterised by neoclassical influence, rich wood veneers, and decorative brass metalwork.

High-end Regency tables frequently featured imported timbers such as Brazilian rosewood or mahogany, often ornamented with cut brass inlay, crossbanding, and cast brass paw feet or castors.

Authentic pieces show hand-cut brass scrollwork flush-fitted into dark timber veneers, combined with period construction techniques such as hand-dovetailed joints, quadform bases, and original brass castors showing natural oxidisation.

A Regency centre table serves as a focal point in an entrance foyer or a living room alcove, paired with a contemporary table lamp or a vase to contrast historic craftsmanship with modern design.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax paste to protect the wood grain, avoiding liquid cleaners or chemical polishes that can lift the delicate brass inlay or damage the antique varnish.
