London City Antiques has dated these Dutch Walnut Pedestal Torcheres to the 1800s.

The hexagonal tops are beautifully veneered in richly figured walnut and kingwood with intricate geometric banding and raised gallery borders. Supported by tapering faceted columns and decorative moulded capitals they possess a refined architectural quality typical of high quality Dutch furniture from the early nineteenth century.

Originally designed to display candlesticks decorative objects busts or porcelain these versatile torchères make excellent statement pieces in both traditional and contemporary interiors. Their elegant proportions allow them to work particularly well flanking a fireplace doorway cabinet or console.

The walnut and kingwood veneers have acquired a beautiful warm colour and patina over the years highlighting the natural beauty of the timber and the quality of the craftsmanship. A particularly decorative pair with excellent colour and striking figured veneers throughout.
