Neoclassical furniture emerged in the mid-18th century as a reaction against the ornate Rococo style, drawing inspiration from classical antiquity, classical Greece, and Rome. Key elements include straight architectural lines, symmetrical proportions, geometric patterns such as Greek key frets, and decorative classical motifs like scrollwork and foliage.
