A butler''s coopered washing tub or oyster bucket
The oval coopered tub with inset handles to each side, unpolished, as used for washing glasses in the butler''s pantry (the wood being more forgiving on the glasses than porcelain, butlers pantry''s often had built in wooden sinks for the same purpose). Similar in form to an oyster bucket, this one as it is unpolished would work particularly well for oysters without concern to getting it wet.
English, mid 19th century
