Mark Davis Antiques has dated this Antique Terrestrial Desk Globe to the 19th Century.
The globe was made by Newton & Son, 66 Chancery Lane, London, England between 1846 and 1847.
The firm was started in 1780 and continued under varying names until the early twentieth century. The globe is dated by the presence of Van Diemen's Land, which would be called Tasmania after 1846 and the presence of British North America which became the Dominion of Canada in 1867.
This beautiful table globe is in good original condition and appears free from repairs and restoration. The papers themselves and the colour show a very high state of preservation. This 9 inch desk or library globe is extremely rare and to the best of my knowledge there is not another currently for sale worldwide.
The majority of these globes are now held in museum collections.
The globe has been purchased privately from a property in the County of Devon, in the west of England.
