Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian mahogany console table, dating from around 1880, brings classic English Country House style to the interior. The piece is fashioned from warm brown mahogany with a deep, rich colour and visible patination from age. Key details include a shaped gallery backboard with a small central shield, a moulded top edge, a wide panelled lip, dummy drawers on the front, a castellated scalloped frieze, and spiral-turned front legs standing on carved feet. The table measures 94 cm high, 104 cm wide, and 43 cm deep. In a modern home, this practical console table finds a natural placement beside the front door to hold keys and post, or in a hallway or living room to display decorative items against a wall. The traditional timber construction and period character make it a versatile furnishing that suits both traditional and eclectic interiors.

FAQs

Designed during the late 19th century, Victorian console tables are narrow accent tables made to stand against a wall in entry halls, dining rooms, or drawing rooms, often featuring solid timber construction and turned legs.

Solid mahogany, walnut, and rosewood were primary timbers, frequently configured with hand-cut dovetail joints, turned legs, and shaped rear upstands or gallery backs.

Look for hand-planed secondary woods like pine or oak on the underside, original hand-cut joinery, natural timber shrinkage along the top surface, and authentic age wear on the finish.

Position the table in a hallway or entryway beneath a wall-mounted mirror, combining the dark timber tones with neutral wall colours, ceramic vessels, or table lamps for balanced proportion.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying beeswax twice yearly to protect the original finish.
