Gilt and Gesso has dated this Italian Majolica Apothecary Jar to the 18th Century.
The blue and white monochrome decoration probably suggests it’s from the Bassono region of northern Italy which suggests probably 18th century, TBV, and possibly into the early 19th century.
A superb example of early Italian apothecary jar, highly sought after and prized pieces. A hand made earthenware jar, hand painted and showing a 19th century staple repair to the top rim/edge. This style of repair is certainly 19th century.
The remaining areas of the jar an in mostly excellent condition with some crazing to the tin glaze surface.
