This George III oak cricket table is an example of country vernacular furniture from the Georgian period. Fashioned from dark brown timber with an original patina, the design includes a circular three-plank top, a triangular undertier with a planked surface, and three splayed legs joined by pegged mortise and tenon joints. The structure incorporates a triangular top rail, supporting cross stretchers, and legs that taper and feature chamfered inside edges. Measuring 71 cm high, 63.5 cm wide, and 63.5 cm deep, this rustic farmhouse table sits comfortably at the end of a sofa to hold a reading lamp, drinks, or decorative items in a living room or study.

A cricket table is a traditional British vernacular form characterised by a circular wooden top supported on three splayed legs, frequently incorporating a lower triangular undertier.

Cricket tables were constructed from native British hardwoods such as oak, ash, or fruitwood using mortise and tenon joinery, typically secured with wooden pegs rather than iron fittings.

Authentic pieces feature three splayed legs designed for stability on uneven stone floors, pegged construction, historical timber shrinkage, and natural surface patination.

These compact three-legged tables function efficiently as occasional side tables alongside armchairs or sofas, offering functional surface space while providing a grounding historical element.

Maintain oak furniture by keeping it away from direct heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and applying high-grade beeswax polish along the grain annually.
