This Georgian English oak cricket table is an antique side table presented in a rustic farmhouse style with a warm brown finish. The light golden coloured timber has a smooth round top set upon a three-legged frame with square-tapered legs. A triangular under-shelf sits lower down between the legs, creating a practical second tier. The wood grain shows natural variations and grain patterns across the circular surface and the undertier. Measuring 75 cm high, 74 cm wide, and 74 cm deep, the table stands at a standard height for occasional furniture. Positioned in a home today, the table functions well as an end of a sofa table or a bedside table in a living room, hallway, or bedroom. The compact footprint makes it suitable for smaller spaces, while the lower shelf provides convenient storage for books or decorative items. The sturdy timber construction offers a stable surface for lamps, drinks, or plants, blending easily with traditional or eclectic interior schemes.

FAQs

A cricket table is a British vernacular furniture form originating in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, featuring a round top supported by three legs designed for stability on uneven floors.

Traditional cricket tables were predominantly constructed from native hardwoods such as oak, elm, or ash, utilising peg jointing and mortise and tenon construction.

Authentic Georgian examples display hand-hewn surfaces, wooden peg construction, historical wear along the lower legs, and natural timber shrinkage across the circular top.

A cricket table functions effectively as an accent or side table beside contemporary upholstered seating, providing warm timber texture and practical surface space.

Preserve the historical finish by dusting regularly with a soft cloth, applying high-grade beeswax polish sparingly, and positioning the piece away from direct radiator heat.
