Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An albarello is a waisted cylindrical ceramic jar historically used by apothecaries to hold medicinal herbs, ointments, and dried remedies. Originating in the Middle East and refined in Renaissance Italy, these tin-glazed vessels were designed for easy handling and storage on pharmacy shelving.

Italian majolica ceramic is crafted from an earthenware clay body coated with an opaque white glaze containing tin oxide. Hand-painted metal oxide pigments, including cobalt blue, antimony yellow, and copper green, are applied directly onto the unfired glaze before undergoing a high-temperature kiln firing.

Authentic antique majolica features hand-painted decorative motifs displaying minor brushwork irregularities and age-appropriate glaze wear, particularly along the rim and base. Authentic vessels show unglazed terracotta undersides and a distinct tin-glaze texture rather than smooth modern transfer prints.

An antique majolica albarello functions as a focal sculptural piece when placed on a sideboard, fireplace mantelpiece, or open kitchen shelf. Displaying polychrome ceramics alongside contemporary neutral decor highlights the vivid glazes and historic silhouette.

Clean tin-glazed pottery gently using a dry, soft cloth or a slightly dampened microfibre cloth without abrasive chemical cleaners. Avoid soaking the ceramic in water or placing it near direct heat sources, as moisture can enter glaze crazing and cause chipping.
